Proverbs 28:13
He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy!
What does this mean? How can I relate to this? Why is it so hard to be a "true christian"? These are some of the questions i use to ask myself when i was coming up in the church. I didn't really understand what the pastor was talking about so i would tune him out and go into my own little world. Bad? Yeah i know, but no one is perfect and that's why i wanted to start this blog because i feel like people are still in that mind set i was in when i was a little girl. Sure, i mean yeah i have done things in my life that wasn't pleasing to God but if i didn't do the things i did i wouldn't know him the way i do today and i wouldn't be able to finally know the answer to these questions. I have so much to say about this so I am going to split this up into three discussions.
What does this mean? This goes out to a lot of people that try to do exactly that, our generation especially, because we do so much and think that if we don't tell anybody and try to hide it from God then it's almost as if it never happened. And that's not how it should be, we are the generation and we have to lead by example for the next generation. It is really easy to follow a fad to try and fit in with the "in crowd" and you never feel like you really belong and its because YOU DON'T!!! Find yourself in the Lord and you'll find your place on Earth. Who said that you have to dress a certain way to get a guy's attention. Or you have to drink this or smoke this or whatever the "cool" thing is at that time to be considered as a "cool person." SOCIETY DID! Me personally, never followed a trend i thought wasn't for me. I've always been an "underdog" my cousin likes to call it, but i like that term because it's exactly what i am. I'm cool because I say I am! I march to the beat of my own drum so to speak, and that makes me stand out in a crowd. Unique. Individual. Sure I've done things and thought, well if nobody knows about it then I'm good. you can't hide your flaws from the one person that wants your heart. He already knows what you're thinking before u think it. so why would we want to let down the person that Loves us more than our own parents!! That's a lot of love from someone we've never even seen. Sometimes i sit and think about why we do the things we do, and the only logical answer i can get is because we're human. We are flesh and blood and the flesh can be a VERY powerful thing if we let it. And we're not always gonna do everything right, but if we strive to walk that path with Christ and know that we are important, we are someone special without the worldly influence down our backs. Then i think we'll have a better insight on what is actually more important than being cool so we wouldn't have to hide our "bad" ways. Stay posted for part 2 guys! I love u, but He loves u more and that's what matters! be blessed.

In response to the original question, "What does this mean?," it sounds like this scripture is referring to salvation. I could be wrong but in my opinion the part about covering is about being in sin and acting like it will go away if you ignore it. It's like that saying, "out of sight, out of mind." If nobody can see what we do in our private lives we believe we can pass by without anyone noticing. But the thing is, people aren't the ones we are really trying to fool. We are trying to fool God. Which is silly since He's the only one that sees us. The same thing happened with David. He had Uriah killed and tried to cover it up like nobody would notice. Everyone knew what was going on. The part about not prospering is almost self explanatory. If you look at it in terms of salvation, living in sin is exactly what will keep you from entering into the kingdom of heaven. Again with David. The seed he planted in Bathsheba did not prosper because he covered his sin. The child died. The Bible says the wages of sin is death. It is unavoidable. Everyday that we continue to live in an unrepentant state, a piece of us dies. But when we forsake our sin or turn our backs to it, deliverance and salvation takes place. If you confess your sin with your mouth, not to man but to God, and believe in Him, He will have mercy on you. Mercy implies compassion that forbears punishing even when justice demands it! This means that even though we don't deserve it, the wonderful God we serve decided to wipe our slate clean so much to the point that in His eyes, the offense was never committed. Thank God for Jesus!
I never took the time to really think about this scripture, and I like your perspective on it. I thought about how you said you're glad you went through some of the things you did because it made your relationship with Christ stronger, and this is so true. Although our making mistakes is inevitable, we often use that as a crutch or an excuse to go out and do the things that we know aren't pleasing to God. I think it's so awesome when people share their journeys to Christ and the hardships they endured along the way because I learn from their experiences and feel enlightened. I believe that is part of the reason why God brings certain people in our lives, simply because He doesn't want us to have to learn the hard way. I absolutely agree when you said we must acknowledge our wrong doings because whether we want to be honest with God or not, HE KNOWS OUR EVERY MOVE, THOUGHT, AND STATE OF BEING!!! I just love Christ so much because in spite of all our flaws, He will still welcomes us with open arms if we just truly examine ourselves and have the longing to make things right with Him. Can't wait for part II!
i appreciate you sharing. this is needed a great deal by all. the sooner we realize that only person we need worry about what they may think of us is God . With that realization and the knowledge that we can hide nothing from Him we would see it is foolish to try to hide sin. Also try to hid sin just postpone or eliminates resolution within self.
Thanks again for sharing this was quite a thought provoking post
